Myofascial Release in durham
What is Myofascial Release?
Myofascial release is a hands-on technique that is used to decrease fascial and muscular pain that is caused by chronically tight muscles, fascia, and trigger points. Myofascial release is a gentle technique used for people who have been in pain for a long time. It can work to decrease pain, increase healing, flexibility, and tissue pliability.
What Does Myofascial Release Do?
At our physical therapy clinic we use myofascial release for improved flexibility and pain relief. This technique works best with people who have been in pain for years. Reason is, many times these people will have increased pain when they exercise. Therefore, we must first decrease pain. Myofascial release is used in areas where there is pain and/or stiffness. It will help to improve both of these problems.
From our experience, yes, it definitely works. However, it should always be performed in conjunction with exercises prescribed to correct the underlying movement dysfunctions. Myofascial release does help with pain and flexibility, but if the underlying movement dysfunctions aren’t addressed, the pain will eventually return.
People who have long-standing pain are those who typically benefit the most. Furthermore, if exercises makes the pain worse then myofascial release can be a great adjunct therapy.
How to Perform Myofascial Release?
We teach each of our clients how to perform self-myofascial release in order to decrease pain and improve flexibility and function. We provide in-depth videos tailored to your individual needs so you know exactly what to do on your own.
How Quickly Should I Feel Results with Myofascial Release?
Many people will feel improvement with pain the same day as receiving a myofascial release treatment. Occasionally, myofascial release will need to be performed 1-3 times before improvement in pain is felt.
